Human rights are recognized in the South Sudan Constitution (2011), which calls for the protection and promotion of human rights within a Bill of Rights. The Government has demonstrated a commitment to human rights through the creation of the South Sudan Human Rights Commission.
Supports the implementation of existing human rights and gender equality frameworks: This sphere supports the implementation of existing human rights and gender equality frameworks and needed legislative reforms; strengthens the capacity of the most marginalized people to access justice and claim their rights and assist duty bearers in fulfilling their obligations to ensure human rights protection, gender equality, rule of law and a just society for everyone. This effort also includes engaging actors on issues of environmental justice.
The areas of interventions for this sphere are: upholding human rights; improving access to justice and transitional justice for the poor and most vulnerable groups; addressing violence, torture and impunity; and upholding pro-gender equality legislation and conducting human rights education.
Support community Social Justice centers: Supporting community social justice centers will allow communities increase their demand and supply with government structure, participate in provision of social services such as water, sanitation, security and overall participation in community decision making processes.
